My 8 Best Fashion Tips To Get Dressed Quickly

To make your morning, and sometimes even your entire day, go smoothly, getting dressed quickly matters. That fluid start can set the tone for your entire day. I specialize in helping women set themselves up for success by getting dressed effortlessly for the office in 10 minutes or less, but that efficiency doesn’t come without some preparation.

In today’s post, I’m sharing my eight best fashion tips to get dressed quickly (and save your morning sanity).

Use neutrals as the base of your wardrobe

A carefully planned wardrobe designed for getting dressed quickly is grounded in a neutral palette. Focused on colors like black, crisp white, shades of gray or choose variants of beige and brown. Even soft shades like blush, sage and vanilla work great as neutrals. These colors provide maximum “mix and match” options with each other and with a few complementary colors that make up the remainder of your closet.

Find your personal style

Developing a signature style can take years, but you can start today to identify the “vibe” you want to portray with your wardrobe. Personal style is essentially an experiment; you never know what will look, and more importantly, feel amazing unit you try it on and wear it with other items you love. Review your closet for clues to your style and build on that as your design your own style.

Keep items “ready to wear”

Set yourself up for AM success by only putting away clothes that are ready to wear. This is one of my best tips to get dressed quickly. If it needs to be ironed or steamed, do that before putting it away. If it’s missing a button, sew it on. If you do this, you can be confident that if you reach for it, you can wear it today without morning hassles.

Organize Your Closet

Take the time to organize your closet. There isn’t a right or wrong way to organize it, just do what makes sense for you. I like to group clothes by category, such as tanks, short sleeve tops, long sleeve tops, dresses, etc. But if you prefer to organize by color, do that. Or if you prefer to group by season, see if that works for you. But once you organize your closet, you’ll be able to find what you want to wear faster each day.

Default to nude pumps

When you need to get out the door quickly, don’t think about what shoes to wear. Just slip on a pair of nude pumps matched to your skin tone. Be sure to stock your closet with a pair of nude pumps with a heel height that works for you.

Nude pumps will typically pair with any dress or pants. Not only will they match everything, but they will make your legs look longer too.

Plan “go-to” outfits for busy mornings

Instead of being late every day or always wearing the same thing, try assembling some ready-to-go outfits ahead of time. Having stylish, pre-selected looks in your closet will make your mornings run smoothly, no matter how late you sleep in.

Try preparing some on the weekend and hanging the pieces together in your closet so that they’re ready to go or snap some picture of great outfits to refer back to when you need some quick AM inspiration.

Build a fashion emergency kit

Put together a quick fashion emergency kit to keep in your closet or bathroom for an AM “quick fix” when you need it to get dressed quickly. It should include:

  • Double-stick tape for loose hems or a gaping neckline
  • A stain eraser pen for removing an unexpected stain quickly
  • Safety pins for allover damage control
  • Lint brush or roller to run over your coat or woolens
  • Unused makeup sponge for removing deodorant stains

Let three essential jackets work for you

Rely on just three essentials jackets to get you through whatever the day brings. Whenever you’re running late, you can quickly grab one of these on your way out the door.

  • A tailored blazer in a neutral color will have you covered for work and formal occasions
  • A denim jacket will take care of most casual looks
  • A leather jacket is perfect for edgy outfits and evening drinks
