If you think wearing black with navy is a fashion “don’t,” then I’ve been breaking the rules lately. I think, with our new Fall collection, I’ve worn black and navy together (in the same outfit) at least once a week for the past few weeks.
It’s easy since several of our newest pieces are navy with super cute black accents. Here are some examples of the outfits I’ve worn and how I’ve worn them.
- Fast Track Leggings with Nothing But Net Tunic — a casual weekend outfit
- Sapphire blue Flare Leg Pants (my favorites) with the black Trace of Lace top — a fun outfit for work that is so comfortable. I added black shoes and fun scarf
- Black Flare Leg Pants (I wasn’t kidding when I just said they were one of my favorites) with the Lace Up Tunic — I wore this to work but I think this top would also be so cute with the Skirted Leggings
See, you are getting the idea. So go ahead and break one of your fashion rules this season!
News from Sunil R of #sunilstyles blog:
“One of my personal favorites this season is the slew of pale pinks I am seeing. They are fresh and go so well with both grey and brown.Think of it as the new nude. There are more pale pink bags and shoes in the stores this season than I have ever seen.”

All you Chocolate lovers have reason to rejoice you have great calorie-free versions to indulge in this Fall. Shades of Cocoa are making a big comeback.
Opt for head to toe dark chocolate or mix it with winter white, cream, camel and tan for sophisticated tonal dressing.

Last night, I wasn’t really sure what Fashion Tip I was going to share today, so I did a Shout Out to my Facebook friends to get their ideas.
At first, my intention was to just pick the best idea and run with it, but after reading what they shared, I’m going to give you some bonus tips this Friday (although you may believe some are better than others!)
I heard that dark florals are all the rage for fall!
How to properly wear leggings — make sure tush is covered
Do you wear white after Labor Day? – the answer is Yes!
Polish your outfit with the perfect belt – and make sure it’s THE belt (more to come on this topic)
Keep what you have until it’s worn out. (Or until it comes back into fashion?!?!?)
Always wear one thing that makes you smile
It’s better to look good, than feel good! (Said no man ever.)
On trend…black and white with lace up shoes
Blue is the new black (I was already planning a future blog post on this topic – stay tuned)
Just because it’s in style or you can squeeze into it, doesn’t mean you’ll look amazing in what’s trendy. Dress the body you have and feel fabulous
There was also a reference to the “column of color” and while I think I know what that means, I’m not confident, so I’ll save that idea for a future Friday Fashion Tip.
And my friend and professional stylist Sunil R shared one of his tips too – see the graphic in this blog. His work is so amazing!

When you’re out shopping for pants, fit matters. One area to check is the rise, the distance from the middle of the crotch seam (right between your legs) to the top of the waistband. It usually ranges from 7 inches to 12 inches. The rise is critical to the fit.
Make sure pants are neither too snug or too “droopy” in the rise area, as this is a part of the pants that not easily altered.
Pant rise is important because it determines where your pants sit on your body, which in turn creates your perceived waistline. Rise can work for you or against you. You can use rise to your advantage by changing your perceived dimensions. Or, choosing the wrong type of rise will make you look disproportional. Be sure to look in a full-length mirror to see the whole picture.

Well, looks like this week got away from me a bit, no blog posts?
For Fashion Tip Friday, let’s talk about fit. Fit can be one of your best fashion friends. When clothes fit your body and shape well, their quality looks even better. Find a local tailor or seamstress who knows your body and taste and make friends with her. Get pants hemmed, maybe a tuck here or there. And, making sure you have the right foundational garments also can affect the fit of your clothes in a significant way.

As you build your closet, here is one way to think about it:
- Your “base” closet should be timeless and classic pieces — a great pair of black pants that fit you well that you love, the perfect jacket that works with your body shape, you get the idea. Here is where you can focus your wardrobe budget for the long haul.
- Sprinkle in some on-trend pieces to keep your wardrobe fresh. A great way to do this is to take advantage of sales and discounts.
- Don’t forget about the right base garments to accentuate your figure and make your wardrobe investments pay off.

As you work on managing your wardrobe, think in a neutral palette.
Start with neutrals like black (always slimming), crisp white, gray, beige and mink brown; then add a pop of color to your look with accessories — maybe a fun bright purse or a beautiful richly-colored scarf. You can even stock up on colored tanks or a patterned top or two to break it up.
This approach makes mixing and matching from your closet effortless and simple.
