logo.pngI had the opportunity last night to attend the Embrace documentary, a social impact documentary that explores the issue of body image. It’s an easy watch, has a great message and is empowering as you think more about it.
If you get a chance to go, I’d recommend it. It plays worldwide and you can even help bring it to your city, much like my friend that took the steps to get it to Fargo.
Here are the key messages in the film.

We say no to…

  • Society and advertisers preying on women’s insecurities
  • Excessive Photoshopping of body images in the media
  • Being programmed into accepting unrealistic body images
  • The notion that being a certain weight determines whether you’re healthy
  • Women being treated as sexual objects and the objectification of women

And we say yes to…

  • Body diversity and reveling in the beauty of the human form
  • Celebrating the journey our bodies have been on
  • Growing old, and acknowledging the privilege to do so
  • Focusing on things that are important, rather than comparing ourselves to others
  • Being healthy at every weight

As I drove home, and even as a I reread these key messages, I challenged myself to think about if my work with Ruby Ribbon means I’m living these messages. I think it does. Ruby Ribbon is all about celebrating confidence, and this is a key message of the film — love your body no matter how it looks. Ruby Ribbon also helps you find the clothes that look best on your body without sacrificing comfort. I love it when I see a new customer light up when she sees how her body looks in a cami or a new flattering item.

Check out the Embrace documentary

embraceThanks to Yvonne Denault Photography, people in the Fargo area can attend a screening of Embrace, a documentary created to explore the way we think about our bodies as women and how to change the negativity we associate with not fitting “the mold”.
The screening will be Monday, Jan 30, at 7:30 PM at Marcus West Acres 14 Cinema. You do need to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets are $11

Documentary Synopsis

When Body Image Activist Taryn Brumfitt posted an unconventional before-and-after photo in 2013 it was seen by more than 100 million people worldwide and sparked an international media frenzy. EMBRACE follows Taryn’s crusade as she explores the global issue of body loathing, inspiring us to change the way we feel about ourselves and think about our bodies.

These are a few of my favorite things…

I believe earlier this week on Facebook, I said the Side Ruched Dress was my favorite from the new Spring 2017 Capsule, but when I went to make sure I had my favorites in my own size to wear at trunk shows (and of course, everywhere else too), I realized that I had at least two favorites from this collection.
anna-in-dressHere’s Ruby Ribbon CEO Anna Zornosa wearing the Side Ruched Dress, in a funky saphhire and white zigzag pattern. I predict this dress will look great on every woman that tries it on. The pattern and the side ruching will be very flattering and the stretchy fabric is just the right weight for spring and summer.
You won’t need much for accessories with this dress but feel free to layer with the Ruby Ribbon Ponte Jacket. And for the right foundation items, you also can choose Ruby Ribbon – the V-neck Slip in pale would be perfect or try our cami or demiette with the boy shorts.
sparkle-v-2-waysMy second favorite piece is the Sparkle V Pullover, shown in this picture worn both frontwards and backwards. The color in the left is more true but I wanted you to see the V-neck detailing in the second picture too. The top is made from a shimmery blue fabric that is woven in, never scratchy feeling.
I would suggest wearing this top with one of the camis from our Sheer Collection with a V-neck to align with this front of this top. It will look great with white, gray, black or brown pants. Gorgeous!

Don't think of this as a stereotype

When I mentioned to someone that I was putting together a post of what to get for grandma, they thought I was stereotyping. I’m not, definitely not. I love that Ruby Ribbon resonates with women of all ages, and grandma is no different. If she’s a fashionista, she will like something different than if she’s going for comfort at all costs, for example.
Here are just a few Ruby Ribbon pieces that I have seen women who are older prefer (but you know your grandma and can select the right thing):

  • Tie Neck Top – a gorgeous lacey top inspired from the looks of the 70s. Will feel great over a Ruby Ribbon black cami
  • Flare Leg Pants — who doesn’t love a great fitting pair of pants with a “skinny band” at the waist
  • Lace Tunic – I see older women just gravitate to this top, which would be perfect with those Flare Leg Pants I just mentioned. This top also is meant to wear over a Ruby Ribbon cami
  • Chevron Kimono — a gorgeous wrap that is cute over many tops and popular with women of all ages

Ultra modern tunic-length layer can be worn front to back or back to front

reversible-topper-winter-2016I wore the new Reversible Topper today with my Bootcut Leggings – what a fun top that is like nothing you’ve seen before.
It’s black, and what’s not to like about black?  The front has a twist and front slit for a flowing look. The back has a high/low hem. You can wear it frontwards or backwards and depending upon your body shape, you’ll find the best look for you.
Pair this with a Ruby Ribbon cami (maybe the Kiss red one?) and a great pair of leggings and you’re set. I added a colorful scarf today since both pieces I was wearing were black. The Reversible Topper has a very relaxed fit.

Popular summer top comes in Pearl for winter

cross-front-in-pearl-png-formatThe Cross Front Top in red has been so popular this summer. The ruching makes it flattering and it can be adjusted to fit as top or a tunic. Plus that same adjusting makes it fit well on women of varying heights.
Fast forward to our Winter 2016 collection and you’ll find that same Cross Front Top but now in a wintery Pearl color, with a 3/4 length sleeve. Ruby Ribbon also added a little to the length. This top will pair well with our Mink leggings. The model is wearing it with our tassel belt but it will also be super cute with bold jewelry or a scarf.
And, for those of you in the Ruby Ribbon “Club,” you’ll be able to purchase this top and the Mink leggings both for $10 off each piece!  (You are in the Club if you have ever purchased a piece of Ruby Ribbon shapewear.)
