For those of us living in the north, we’re all saying we’ve had enough of this winter. (At my house, we got another 10 inches or so of ❄️snow last night!). So this morning, I started jotting down a few tips to help boost your mood if you’re feeling a bit of the “winter blues” during what probably feels like the longest winter ever.
I didn’t check for scientific backing, so take these with a grain of salt. They are the types of things that are helping me get through it now that we are on the 967th month (or something close to that number) of winter.
Tips to help you beat the winter blues
When the next 🥕gardening or seed catalog comes in the mail (and you know one is coming), sit down and enjoy it. No matter if you are a master gardener or just a gal who likes to dig in the dirt, dreaming about how your garden and 🌸flower beds will look in a few months is a great way to set your sights on Spring.
If you’re the person that puts away 👗clothes each season, maybe it’s time to dig out the crates of spring and summer clothes and go through them. Review them for fit and make any repairs that are needed. Maybe it’s a good time to spruce up your 👡summer shoes with some polish? The act of getting your Spring wardrobe ready may be just what you need to believe that Spring is on the way.
Now that you have your Spring clothes out, the obvious next step for beating the winter blues is to actually wear something from your Spring or Summer wardrobe. Pick a color or pattern that just SCREAMS SPRING to you and wear it. It’s OK- there are no closet police that I’m aware of. I know it may be too cold to wear these pieces as you would on a warm summer day, but a tank top or 👚tee would be great layered under a jacket. Or put a long sleeve top under a summer dress with tights and go for it!
Get out the self tanning cream! By now you’re feeling pretty white; I know I am and I even had some time in the ☀️sun in January. The answer is right there in your bathroom drawer. A couple coats of self tanning cream might be just what you need to feel a little less zombie-ish.
Buy yourself some 🌷flowers (yep, I mean it). On your next trip to the 🏪grocery store, give yourself permission to pick out the bouquet that looks the most Spring to you. Bring them home, put them in your prettiest vase and plop them down where you can see them all the time. (I hope they make you smile!)
(PS: when I was creating the graphics to go along with this article, my app thought I should pay 💵$1 for a picture of a huge snow pile. Ha! Game on… I can take that pic and more like it by just stepping out on my porch!)
(PPS: I filled this blog post with emojis also because I hope they will make you 😊smile on this cold day)
So, with that headline, you may not actually get what you were expecting. I’d like to introduce you to a fun outfit featuring two of the newest Ruby Ribbon items from Spring 2019. Pair the Side Cinch Tunic in ice heather with the black Lace-Up Leggings for a great spring look. Accent this outfit with colorful jewelry or an oblong patterned scarf.
Side Cinch Tunic
When you add this new Side Cinch Tunic to your wardrobe, you’ll find yourself wearing it in a variety of ways. It’s a great layering piece with a jacket, and can be worn in a super casual way with jeans too. It’s sleeveless with a crew neck and is made from a super soft fabric that mimics that well worn and “oh so soft” tee.
One unique thing about this tunic is the side ties that allow you to cinch the top at a tunic length or shorter if you prefer. This cinching will give you a ruched looked that is always flattering. I’m finding my clients need to size up in this tunic for the fit they’re looking for. (You probably also want your Ruby Ribbon Bye Bye Bra cami under it.)
With the lace-up accent on the sides of each leg, these are
a dressed up version of your favorite ankle leggings. The laces are made of
faux suede and they lace up in great looking metal grommets.
You can wear these lace-up leggings with any of your favorites tops or tunics. To make sure you show off the sassy lace-up detail, pair them with flats now and with sandals later this spring. Like all our Ruby Ribbon leggings, these also have the “skinny band” at the waist.
What could be a better than a day to just hang out and lounge about? How about a new few new pieces of the comfiest and coziest “lay on the couch for a movie” kind of clothes? Two of the newest pieces in the 2019 Spring collection are the Lounge About Tunic and the Hang Out Hoodie.
Lounge About Tunic
In a soft shade of pink, the Lounge About Tunic has a deep v-neckline with a unique but pretty cutout detail. It’s super lux to lounge in; feel free to push up the long dolman sleeves for a soft and casual look. This tunic has a losse fit that tapers slightly at the hem, and it’s a versatile length that can be worn longer or shorter. The fabric is a super soft t-shirt fabric with a touch of stretch.
To wear the Lounge About Tunic and stay comfy, pair them with your favorite Ankle Leggings, or maybe a pair with a little bit of sizzle like the Lace-Up Leggings (still comfortable but kicked up a notch!). Or, for a trip outside and off the couch, pair this tunic with our Denim Leggings (either black or dark blue will do) and you can even try wearing the tunic backwards for a completely different look.
Hey, if you’re not lounging about, maybe it’s time to just hang out? You can do that in the new color for the Hang Out Hoodie – a pretty navy fleck. This hoodie came out last year in a black pattern that sold out in weeks. Let’s hope we had a bit more of a stock up this time! Who knew it would be so popular?
One way that this new Hangout
Hoodie is different is that in addition to a great long length for extra
coverage, it also has thumbholes at the wrist. The seams are slimming and you’ll
love the side pockets. Think style and comfort all in a sport hoodie that you’ll
wear ALL THE TIME.
Here are a couple ways to style
the Hang Out Hoodie:
Toss it on over your workout gear as you’re heading to the gym
Wear it over a tee with your jeans for a classically casual look
Pair it with black leggings or white capris with the black Dual Tank or white Lace Extender (This is my favorite way to wear the Hang Out Hoodie)
I need to admit something. Today, I cheated on my Capsule Wardrobe.
For the last 12 days, I’ve been testing out a 20-piece Capsule Wardrobe, wearing those same pieces in a variety of mix and match options for the entire month of January. I’ve been infatuated with capsule wardrobes for a while and I wanted to experience a Capsule Wardrobe for myself.
But today, I added a top (just 1 more piece) into the 20-piece mix. Just for today, I promise!
You see, today was the day that I helped launch Ruby Ribbon’s Spring 2019 Capsule, and I thought it was only right that I wear something from the new Spring collection. On Friday, I unpacked the entire collection and added it to my rack. In my size, I had a couple options, but I decided to wear the new Ruffle Top, a wrap top in a poly crepe blend. I paired it with Crop Ponte Trousers in the “dash” print and the Dual Tank, wearing the Ruffle Top open as more of a jacket. The top comes with a matching wrap belt so you can wear it as a top, if you prefer that look.
Key features of this Ruffle Top including 3/4 length ruffled sleeves, a pretty blue bandana print and a tunic length. This top will match any of the Ruby Ribbon sapphire items perfectly.
Here are a few other ways you might wear this Ruffle Top:
Dress it down with a white top underneath and pair it with your favorite dark denim jeans
Pair it with a black skirt of your choice over a black tank or Ruby Ribbon cami; try this look with a black wedge sandal

While we are waiting for spring, and the Spring 2019 Capsule, Ruby Ribbon did us a holiday favor and launched one item from the Spring collection early. Introducing the new MVP Tunic, the first item for Spring to launch.
It’s actually more like Spring meets today with this new #fashleisure tunic in Atomic Red. First, it’s oversized and so easy to wear, even featuring side slits at the hemline. It will be great with any of your favorite Ruby Ribbon leggings (anything from the glam of the Studio 54 Leggings to casual ankle leggings),but also super cute to toss over a summer top with shorts.
Sport mesh fabric accents this piece in two places. While it’s a crew neck tunic, the mesh detail at the neckline gives the illusion of a v-neck. And the long sleeves also are accented with sport mesh stripes.
In a cotton “terry-like” fabric, the MVP Tunic feels like your favorite sweatshirt but comes with so much more style.

Love your Ruby Ribbon capris? (Yes, we all do – ha!) How about kicking them up a notch with a lace-trimmed pair?
Yes, it’s the same fabric, but with a 5 1/2 inch lace trim along the hem for a touch of flair. These are your “dress up” capris; you should consider wearing them with a nude heel. The inseam is slightly longer than our standard capris, partially due to the lace trim.
With lace as the theme for your outfit, consider topping these fun capris with a black Empire Lace Tank and our Ponte Blazer. Or pair them with either the white or demin Tunic Dress for a slightly more casual look.

I’ve enjoyed watching all the ways that women are styling our new Crop Ponte Trouser. The gingham print is an incredible base for many beautiful outfits. These pants are the perfect length and pattern for spring. And, they feature the signature Ruby Ribbon “skinny waistband” too.
Pair these optic black and white trousers with neutrals if that’s your style. They look great with black or a crisp white. Or, if you love to dress in color, these are the base for red, melon, royal blue, pink, purple and more. These pants are flattering but not meant to be tight. And, they feature a first in our Ruby Ribbon pants – can you say Pockets!
I couldn’t resist getting one of these crisp button-ups for myself. Our new Shirt Dress is so versatile – belt it, wear it as a long top, try it as a dress, or leave it open as a jacket. I’m betting you’ll be wearing this All. The. Time.
In either a shiny blue denim or a crisp white, you’ll find a ton of ways to style it too. The length screams leggings to me. I already wore the blue with black leggings, but just think of the various options you have either either color. Pair with boots now, but super fun later with sandals too. Available in sizes XS to 3XL, as usual.
