For those of us living in the north, we’re all saying we’ve had enough of this winter. (At my house, we got another 10 inches or so of ❄️snow last night!). So this morning, I started jotting down a few tips to help boost your mood if you’re feeling a bit of the “winter blues” during what probably feels like the longest winter ever.
I didn’t check for scientific backing, so take these with a grain of salt. They are the types of things that are helping me get through it now that we are on the 967th month (or something close to that number) of winter.
Tips to help you beat the winter blues
When the next 🥕gardening or seed catalog comes in the mail (and you know one is coming), sit down and enjoy it. No matter if you are a master gardener or just a gal who likes to dig in the dirt, dreaming about how your garden and 🌸flower beds will look in a few months is a great way to set your sights on Spring.
If you’re the person that puts away 👗clothes each season, maybe it’s time to dig out the crates of spring and summer clothes and go through them. Review them for fit and make any repairs that are needed. Maybe it’s a good time to spruce up your 👡summer shoes with some polish? The act of getting your Spring wardrobe ready may be just what you need to believe that Spring is on the way.
Now that you have your Spring clothes out, the obvious next step for beating the winter blues is to actually wear something from your Spring or Summer wardrobe. Pick a color or pattern that just SCREAMS SPRING to you and wear it. It’s OK- there are no closet police that I’m aware of. I know it may be too cold to wear these pieces as you would on a warm summer day, but a tank top or 👚tee would be great layered under a jacket. Or put a long sleeve top under a summer dress with tights and go for it!
Get out the self tanning cream! By now you’re feeling pretty white; I know I am and I even had some time in the ☀️sun in January. The answer is right there in your bathroom drawer. A couple coats of self tanning cream might be just what you need to feel a little less zombie-ish.
Buy yourself some 🌷flowers (yep, I mean it). On your next trip to the 🏪grocery store, give yourself permission to pick out the bouquet that looks the most Spring to you. Bring them home, put them in your prettiest vase and plop them down where you can see them all the time. (I hope they make you smile!)
(PS: when I was creating the graphics to go along with this article, my app thought I should pay 💵$1 for a picture of a huge snow pile. Ha! Game on… I can take that pic and more like it by just stepping out on my porch!)
(PPS: I filled this blog post with emojis also because I hope they will make you 😊smile on this cold day)
One of the best gift items we have right now from Ruby Ribbon is the new Sparkle Scarf. Women of nearly any age will love it, especially those that like the on-trend rose gold metallic.
In an oatmeal heather color, this scarf will go with so many outfits. Wear it over a sweater for a cozy winter look. Or, use it with a coat (any color, really) as an outwear scarf. Or, wrap it around yourself like a shawl for the perfect additional layer over nearly any top, or even a dress.
This scarf can only be described as extra cozy and it’s also super soft in a knit that feels like cashmere. It also feature rose gold sparkly nailheads scattered across it.
Both of these leggings can go from casual to high fashion, just in how you style them. They feature the signature Ruby Ribbon “skinny waistband” and sizes run from XS to 3XL.
Our most decadent and plush leggings yet, the Velvet Leggings are a cozy and warm stretch velvet. We are offering them in a rich eggplant color that will pair well with all neutrals.
I’d consider wearing them with the Shimmy Tunic Dress, the black Drape Tunic or the even Chiffon Poncho with the tiger print. The Ponte Blazer also would look great with these leggings. These outfits will be over-the-top with great statement jewelry or other bling.
Studio 54 Leggings
At first glance, the Studio 54 Leggings appear to be inspired by sportswear, and they were. But take a second look at these lux leggings with the metallic gold stripe on each leg.
When you hear “Studio 54,” what do you think of? Elegance and decadence, maybe disco and nightclub. These leggings seem to have all of that and are aptly named.
Style them casually with our Dual Tank or the black Layered Tunic. Or make them ultra holiday by adding the Studio Sequin Tank from last holiday, just one idea.
I think the new Shimmy Tunic Dress is the piece in the 2018 Winter/Holiday Collection getting the most buzz. It will go great at the most festive or elegant event this season.
Check out the bugle beads sewn in the shoulder straps, and these straps are part a cold-shoulder cutout feature, as well. Talk about eye-catching, and with a light shimmer in this beautiful silver heather color.
This top also features an elegant draped neckline, long sleeves, and a wide band at the bottom. You can move the band higher or lower for a variety of different looks for this top. Note you can wear it alone as a sparkly dress, or pair it with a skirt, pants or leggings(I’d go for black but other colors would be fun also) for a long and lean look.
As always, we have your perfect fit with sizes ranging from extra small to 3XL. Here’s a link to all my posts showcasing the 2018 Winter and Holiday Collection. Check back as it takes a few weeks to get them all previewed for you.

A cozy piece to pack for the weekend, our new Lux Tunic is going to become a staple in our wardrobe.
This tunic-length sweater features a cowl neckline that is so flattering. A fun fashion tip is to fill in the neck with a chic scarf to add a layer of warmth. It’s not cashmere, but it feels so soft.
Pair it with leggings (you know where to get the best) and boots and you have the perfect winter look. Or belt it with a cute pencil skirt, add tights and you’re off to the office. You can get it in either Wine Heather or basic Black, and as always, comes in sizes XS to 3XL.
One of the newest fashion trends hitting the streets may catch you a little off guard. You may have worn them in the 80’s and guess what, they’re back! Introducing our chunky cable knit Leg Warmers in black. (Why said history didn’t repeat itself?)
To get you into the leg warmer mood, I thought I would share a few tips on how to style them in the most trendy ways:
Pull them over your jeans — your skinny jeans and any shoe will take on a fresh look (let them rumple a little – leg warmers aren’t meant to be stretched flat)
Let them peak out of your calf-height boots — More texture, some additional warmth (maybe at an outdoor sporting event), and total style
Pair them with a heel – check out the picture on the right for how to pull off this slouchy look.
Stay warm on your commute — For those of you that need to walk outside in skirts and dresses this winter, leg warmers are a great option to keep you warm and then take them off at the office if they don’t “go” with your look
Share them with a friend — as a stocking stuffer for a millennial… or her super cool Mom!
So, who’s ready to rock the new Ruby Ribbon Leg Warmers.
When I saw this Layered Tunic, I knew immediately it was going to be one of my personal favorites in this collection. It’s light and floaty with a mix of chiffon and jersey knit.
While it looks like two pieces, the draped “jacket” is attached to the body of the top, so it’s all one piece. I LOVED it in the Spruce color (and could already envision it with the black Jacquard Leggings), and later I realized that we also can get it in black. I find that I can always find space in my closet for another black tunic, don’t you?
What to wear with the Spruce?
Black — of course, like the Ankle Leggings or the Ponte Leggings or the Bootcut Leggings or the Panel Leggings or the Ottoman Ponte Leggings (So. Many. Choices.)
It will be gorgeous with the Stretch Woven Pants in either color — mink brown or black
Try it with the Asymmetric Skirt for a dressier look
Next spring, pair it with the gray or black Criss Cross Capri Leggings (or don’t wait – go on vacation so you can try this outfit now!)
What to wear with the Black?
Suedette Leggings in ANY of the five colors — camel, wine, gray, spruce or black – you can’t go wrong
In the spring, the black will be chic with the white Jacquard Leggings
A zipper that can be zipped from both the top and the bottom
A tailored look with on-seam pockets
A fun button and belt detail on the back
Leather piping detail too – look closer
It may not be a “coat” in the North Dakota sense of the word, but I’m certain it will fit the bill as a layering piece or a coat depending upon where you are. Winter and Holiday Capsule Summary

Look anywhere right now and you’ll see that Ruby Ribbon’s design team is in tune with the trends. Not only are we debuting a Choker Plunge Top in two color options, but many other lines also are offering them.
Ours is light and soft and gathered at the shoulder. In a Deep Sea and a Wine tone, these tops will be perfect for many events you’re attending this season. With a bracelet-length sleeve, you’ll be able to show off your favorite bling, and there’s really no need for any other jewelry.
This top is a longer length that can be easily tucked in or worn out. Pair with skirts, our Palazzo Pants, or the ponte pants we’re known for. Either of these colors will be perfect with both black and mink brown.
We’ve had a skirt and a dress, so let’s complete the “Moto Chic!” options with the newest Ruby Ribbon legging, the Ottoman Ponte Legging. (We had to do it, we’re known for our leggings – comfortable, slimming, smoothing, great textures, delightful details).
This cool and sleek look in leggings will “wow” you, and you’ll be amazed at how figure flattering that ottoman detail is — panels in just the right places.
Think of these as your favorite Ruby Ribbon leggings, only kicked up a notch. You’ll style them the same way, but maybe with a little more edginess, a bigger buckle on your boots, a bit more kick.
If it’s time to replace one of your black leggings, maybe these are just what you need? Winter and Holiday Capsule Summary
